The London Book Fair 2018
One of the most exciting events in London (and global!) book culture, the London Book Fair, is happening this spring from April 10th to 12th. This year marks the fair’s 47th anniversary, and we are incredibly excited to launch the UCL Publishers’ Prize alongside a variety of exciting and enticing books. The London Book Fair is an annual event focusing on book rights negotiations, as well as the sale and dispersion of book content across other forms of media. More generally, it is also an opportunity for publishing professionals and enthusiasts to gather, learn, and celebrate the dynamic modern publishing industry. Operating by the mantra ‘Taking Words Further, Content Across Media,’ the London Book Fair and its attendees work to make books accessible in new and unparalleled ways. This year, the fair expects around 25,000 visitors from across the world and publishing sector, including authors, booksellers, distributors, literary agents, publishers, and more. Any professional working in or associated with the publishing industry can attend, and publishing students are also welcome. Attendees can expect a variety of stallholders and exhibitors, from academic publishers to independent, genre-based publishing houses. The fair floor will be divided into three sectors, specifically Cross Media Collection, The Writers Block, and New Title Showcase. The Cross Media Collection will spotlight the applicability of the written word across such digital platforms as video games and smart phone applications. The Writers Block will be the go-to destination for author services such as self-publishing guidance, and the New Title Showcase will honour new releases in the publishing world. Other interesting features of the fair include Author of the Day programmes, a centre for literary translation, literary debates, and more. Though the fair itself happens just annually, the London Book Fair as an organization continues to operate throughout the year. The London Book Fair team attends other global fairs and hosts a variety of enlightening seminars and conferences, including the recent Building Inclusivity in Publishing conference with the Publishers’ Association.
